Robert S. Carlson

Managing Partner

Rob Carlson is a managing partner who has practiced with Caldwell, Carlson, Elliott & DeLoach for over 25 years.  He is recognized by his peers as a hard-working, aggressive litigator that is comfortable handling cases involving complex legal issues and fact patterns.

Over the years, Rob has successfully prosecuted and defended hundreds of high-asset trust and estate cases, will contests, fiduciary duty and fraud claims, and various disputes involving closely held businesses.  Rob has represented many prominent Atlanta families in the firm’s most significant cases and has numerous reported decisions in Georgia state, federal, and appellate courts.

Among other things, Rob was among the firm’s lawyers representing Bernice and Martin King in a highly publicized dispute involving the Coretta Scott King Estate.  He and his partner Harmon Caldwell are credited with having obtained the first award of punitive damages in a Georgia probate court for maladministration of an estate by its executors.  More recently, Rob obtained a $7 million jury verdict for his client, a minority shareholder in a closely held business. The notable verdict included an award of $5 million in punitive damages and is recognized as the largest shareholder dispute verdict in the United States in 2022.

Rob received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University in 1991 and graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1996, where he was a recipient of the James Lewis Parks and Stephen Kraft Memorial Scholarships.  He has been awarded numerous professional honors, authored articles which have been published in national law journals and presented at legal seminars.

Originally a native of Boston, Rob moved to Atlanta in 1991 and currently resides in Grant Park.
